KUCHING: Organisers of the inaugural Kuching Waterfront Jazz Festival on Sept 29-30 hope to turn it into a major event for the country.
With 18 jazz acts scheduled to perform, it is expected to be the largest jazz festival in East Malaysia.
Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) deputy general manager (commercial sector) cum director of tourism and hospitality division, and corporate relations and communications Edwin Abit said the festival has potential to stimulate positive economic benefits in terms of food and beverage, hotels, retail outlets and more.
“The two-day music festival will feature acclaimed jazz musicians and singers from all over the region.
“Those who attend the festival can not only expect two days of jazz concerts, but a venue with open air and indoor food courtyards, speciality bazaars, arts, crafts, activities and games for children,” he told a press conference yesterday.
Edwin said the festival would also give prominence to the Kuching Waterfront and be a platform to nurture and grow local jazz talents.
