The 2nd annual Kuching Waterfront Jazz Festival (KWJF) will be happening on the 28th and 29th September this year at the Grand Margherita Hotel Kuching. The 2-day jazz music festival will feature a total of 14 acclaimed jazz musicians and bands from all over the region. Among them are Aditya, Tompi and Tulus from Indonesia.
Be Mine, Tak Ingin, Hingga Akhir Waktu, Juwita and Go Away are just some of the hit songs from singer Aditya. According to him, RnB is his roots and pop is his soul. To date he has released 2 albums, BE M1NE and I’M YOURS and also one single Go Away. He has performed on many stages all over Indonesia and overseas. Some of those stages are Indonesia’s most prestigious events such as the International Java Jazz Festival and Soulnation Festival. Aditya had also performed in The Melbourne Convention Centre in Melbourne, Australia as well as private events for Brunei’s Royal Family. His shows are always a unique experience as he combines Pop, RnB and electronics through his music. “The best of me is still yet to come, my dream is to be the number 1 male artist in Indonesia as well as reaching a wider International audience,” said Aditya.
Teuku Adifitrian, but more widely known as Tompi, was born and raised in the town of Lhokseumawe, in Aceh. The multi-talented Jazz, Funk and Soul singer is actually a certified medical doctor specializing in plastic surgery in his own aesthetic clinic, as well as music video director, photographer and creatice director for his own music projects and other Indonesian musicians. The loving father has also created an album dedicated to his son, Teuku Omar Dakari, called ‘My Happy Life’. His album named ‘T’ brought him a nomination in Anugerah Musik Indonesia Awards 2006 for Best RnB Production Category.
Tulus, whose real name is Muhammad Tulus, is an Indonesian singer from Bandung, Indonesia. With a strong passion in Pop Jazz, he brings the side of jazz which is easy-listening and enjoyable to most people, targeting a wider segment of music listeners. His chart-topping single ‘Sewindu’ from 2011 is still a big fan favourite everytime he performs. “The word Tulus means sincere in English, so that is my aim when creating music, the kind of music that’s sincere and also friendly to everyone’s ears,” said Tulus.
Among the other star-studded lineup that will be performing at KWJF 2018 are multi-award winning Sarawakian songstress Dayang Nurfaizah, Ito & The Blues Gang (Malaysia), Atilia Haron (Malaysia), Aisyah Aziz (Singapore), Carmen Souza (Portugal), The Natalie Gillispie Band (Australia) and many more.
“Apart from giving prominence to the scenic Kuching Waterfront, KWJF also hopes to be a platform to inspire and nurture local music talents. Local band Sang Voyage, who recently won the KWJF Jazz Band Search, will join the lineup representing Sarawak at KWJF 2018. This year’s show will also feature Tuku Kame, who will be serenading the crowd with their jazz infused with traditional Sape’, fulfilling our intention of to paying homage to the sounds of Sarawak,” said said KWJF creator and organiser Tuan Haji Soedirman Haji Aini, General Manager of the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC).
